They state in the ad that the coins are marked copy, but when you receive them they are not marked. This makes it easy for people to get ripped off by unscrupulous resellers.

They are doing everything in their power to give metals a bad name and this has been going on for years. I have seen it here, people posting how beautiful their Chinese panda coins are. How they are so much better that other gold coins. One look and I guessed they were fake. Spending like a thousand bucks on a fake coin? |
Re: This Would Scare The Sh*t Out Of Me If I Collected Morgan Dollars...
Untill reading threads here I had no clue they were doing silver dollars!!
I was a little shocked. I thought it was just gold coins the Chinese were faking. |

Re: This Would Scare The Sh*t Out Of Me If I Collected Morgan Dollars...
I've seen and handled many of these counterfeit silver dollars - for the most part they are so poorly done that anyone even remotely familiar with PMs/numismatics should be able to tell they're fake right away. I have a handful that are way too thin, way too light and look more like pig iron than silver. That being said, there are many ignorant people out there who wouldn't know any better. DYODD!

Thanks again for your order. I am busy trying to get more Fisch ready, particularly the "out of stock" Wallets - #1 (Mexican coins, 100 Corona, etc) and #6 (Silver Dollar). Then I have only a handful of Wallet #2 (KR/AE) left. I forgot how much work it is. Each Fisch gauge gets hand finished and checked for accuracy. I am also redoing the packaging. At the same time, I am working on the specifications for a new Fisch for the American Buffalo, Austrian Philharmonic & the Australian Kangaroo/Nugget. All the 1oz versions. Thank goodness I have my brother's help on this as it is complicated. In due course, I will offer these 3 new Fisch at an excellent (reduced) price to existing Fisch users. This will be in the 4th quarter of this year. I will also be offering the Wallet #1 and #6 at reduced prices to existing users as soon as they are ready to ship. If you are interested in any of these Fisch, drop me an email and I will put you on the list to notify first. Attached is your copy of The Fisch Precious Metals Buyers Guide. It is a PDF file that can be opened with the Adobe Reader or similar program. A reader can be downloaded free from http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/ I recently added some interesting information about counterfeits at the start of Chapter 2. Here is what a customer has to say about fakes and the Fisch. I found it on the www.goldismoney.info forum: "Never, but NEVER sell short the idea that there ARE fake gold coins out there. In the years I have been buying, trading, collecting, and generally dealing in PMs and numismatics, I have encountered MANY different fakes. While the general notion that gold coins cannot be faked and retain their size, shape, and correct specific gravity may be true, the more common ploy is to make a fake using "slightly" less gold than is used in the genuine article. This is where the (Fisch) testers come in very handy, especially so to those of us who go through a lot of coins. The Fisch instruments are excellent in this regard, and basically measure the shape, thickness, diameter, and specific gravity of the coin in a very quick and easy process of passing the coin through a slot, and then placing it in a small tray to check the "balance" of the coin to the correct specific gravity of the gold alloy mix for the specific coin. (Note: The Fisch does not actually balance, it must tilt. Read the instructions!). I have used these little instruments since the big rush circa 79-80, and have never seen them fooled by a fake, though they have identified many "off-weight" fakes over the years." Please tell your friends about the Fisch. Friends telling each other about the Fisch (which now includes forums on the web, like the one above) has played a big part in getting the Fisch into the hands of investors over the last 28 years. Re: This Would Scare The Sh*t Out Of Me If I Collected Morgan Dollars...
What's scary is for a moment I thought, "I'll buy one and sell it to some sucker on craigslist or ebay for $1000."
I never would do that. The 1st reason it's just wrong, second as a numismatic, I think it's a travesty to flood the market with such crap-- Morgans are to beautiful of a coin to do that to, and 3rd, I really don't think making a profit is worth worrying about getting a future ass kicking. But if it entered my mind, I'm sure there's plenty who would do this. Be careful out there. |

Re: This Would Scare The Sh*t Out Of Me If I Collected Morgan Dollars...
The newer generations of these coins are a lot better than they used to be. Just like any other "business", the Chinese are constantly refining and perfecting their fakes. As a person who has a substantial amount tied up in numismatics, I don't have to tell you what I'd do if I ever got a hold of one of these f**king guys.

Re: This Would Scare The Sh*t Out Of Me If I Collected Morgan Dollars...
This is a good sign.
More people are counterfieting coins because they have value. From a Gov point ---the more they allow this to go on the more people will not invest in metal. Do not expect the Fed to come to the rescue for counterfit coins. Coin Graders will pick up a lot of business. E-A |
